Bawean Island (Bhebien)
is taken from the Sanskrit word meaning "There Sunlight". This is a
small island with panoramas and cultural heritage, a lake, atolls, culture and
hospitality of Baweanese are equally captivating. Bawean Island is
one of wonderful island in Indonesia, precisely in East Java province. It
stands on about 80 miles or 120 kilometers north of Gresik regency, the north
of Java Sea by the straits of Madura and Surabaya. It covers total land area of
Bawean isle at 188.75 sq. km. To reach this
island, the travellers need 3 hours sailing by Bahari Express from Gresik port, 9 hours by VM. Giliiyank, 45 minutes by flight, Airfast Asia. Bawean island consists of 2 districts, Sangkapura and
Tambak district and 17 villages. This island has many attractive natural
destinations. Besides its marine tourism, shaddy lake and waterfalls, mangrove
conservation, green hills, terasering point, endemic Bawean hog deer sanctuary
that are all potential for ecotourism. The travellers can also enjoy the
culture and handycraft of the indigenous of moslems.
1. Kastoba Lake
BAWEAN
has a very exotic lake. Kastoba lake is located in Paromaan village,
Candi, Tambak. It takes only one and a half hour drive from Sangkapura dock, by
passing Bawean road. Kastoba lake located on a high hill enough. Quiet and
peaceful atmosphere will greet you in a lake with 725 ha width. Its location on
a hill surrounded by trees make the air feel so cool. Lush green landscape with
giant shade trees, the very clean and clear lake water will make all visitors
feel at home. To reach the lake is
not easy. Visitors must walk through the path then enter the forest. The road
is up and down through hills and have to walk for about 1 Km to get to Kastoba
Lake. It because the Kastoba lake is located on hill. Kastoba lake gives
special feels to those nature lovers.
2. Tanjhung Gaang Cape and Carst
One
of famous tourist destination in Bawean island is the amazing Tanjung Ga'ang.
The unique one of Tanjung Ga'ang is its nature view. The visitors will passed
several tourist destinations such as; Tanjung Kodok, rocked coral, and another
marine sceneries. It is about 8km, precisely located in Somor-Somor village,
Tanjung Kima area, also part of Kumalasa area. The main interesting of Tanjung
Ga'ang is its beautiful coral cliffs. Tanjung Ga'ang itself can divided into
three tourism spots. First, enjoy the expanse of cliffs from the sea by boat
charter. Second, enjoy the expanse of wide coral by looking at the beauty of
the sea water. And the last one is Tanjung Kodok beach in before we climbed the
rocks, when we will be over the cliff.
3. Bawean Endemic Deer Sanctuary
There
deer species that only found (endemic) in Bawean Island, called as Axis Kuhli.
Besides, mangosteen, bark, red fruit, and durian are planted in this island. Dozens
of fishes species are also on the coast of the island. This
deer reserved is located in Beto Gebang Pudakit Barat, Sangkapura district.
Bawean Deer or Axis Kuhlii live Endemic in Bawean. So, the 45 deers is native
habitat of Bawean island. This reserved is located at foot part of Mount
Gadung. The location is very potential for study tour, research and
eco-tourism. Meanwhile, the deer itself is wild and endemic, not same as others
reserved and the visitors are not allowed to give some food to them. But here,
the visitors can enjoy the beautiful cliffs and birds chirp. It so calm and
natural
4. Noko Atoll
Noko
Atoll is a very small island, uninhabited, and has wide enough of white sand.
The water is crystal clear, the island is clean, and the sand is smooth. The
waves are calm or even almost no waves. The island which adjacent to Gili
Island has about one square kilometer with the rest of the land is filled by
beautiful white sand. It is suitable for beach and underwater lovers. Gili
Island or Gili Timur Island is a small island within 2.3 km east of Bawean
island. To visit this island, you can cross by renting a fishing boat and need
about 30 minutes trip. Gili Island is one of dense inhabited island in Bawean.
5. Noko Selayar Atoll
Noko Selayar Atoll is a mountain in the
middle of sea, separated from Bawean land. Selayar tourist destination located
in Sungairujing village, Sangkapura district. Noko Selayar is just like a mound
of white sand. No home, no more trees, almost nothing other than smooth white
sand. With about 6000 m2 area, Noko Selayar offers the charm of beauty
underwater. The uniqueness of the island is the position of the island (hills)
which located in offshore. Around the island (in the middle of sea) is full of
scenic rocks and shrubs. The tourism spot on the island is also very suitable
for tourists who want snorkeling or diving. Moreover, the waves on the beach is
also small, so it would not be an obstacle for tourists who want to swim or
snorkel.
6. Cina island
Tanjung Cina Island is very rich of marine
life charming. Visitors can dive and enjoy a variety of marine life, such as
table coral (coral that formed table), reef fish, sea eel, magpie, starfish,
clams and Kima mussels. Thi Tanjung Cina island is quite close to the mainland
Bawean. If the low tide, we could even walk to the island from Dedawang
sub-village, Telukjatidawang village. However, the better spot is in the
western and northern part of the island, so if visitors walk from Bawean, you
have to turn a bit far. If the visitors coming from Nusa Island, visitors can
use kelotok (traditional boat made from woods material). So you will be greeted
with a big enough of lined rock. Now the higher stone is in the north part.
Just walk rather bit and you will find 'Batu Pengantin' (Bride Stone)
7. Laccar Waterfall
Laccar waterfall is located in Laccar
sub-village, Kebun teluk dalam village, Sangkapura district, about 15 km from
the center Sangkapura district. Arrive the tourist sites, not directly meet the
waterfall, but you have to walk through forest path which surrounded by palm
trees as far as about 500 meters. Continued by passed the rocky river about 200
meters, then get to Laccar waterfall area. This waterfall has about 25 meters
height with artistic cliffs background, but for last ten years. This tourist
area has surrounded by hills that covered with leafy trees, provides cool air
atmosphere. Of course, this condition makes visitors feel comfortable to enjoy
the roar of the water that falls in between the rocks and the chirping sounds
of variety birds and monkeys of forest dwellers around Laccar waterfall.
8. Labuhan Beach
Labuhan beach is a tourist icon in Bawean
island located in Tanjunggori village, Tambak district. The beach is known for
its beautiful and worthy for such marine tourism just like in Kuta beach Bali
and other. Labuhan beach is also known for its beaches with an abundance of
charm underwater. When dusk comes, this place is the most appropriate place to
see the moment of sunset in the west of Bawean island. Labuhan beach is virgin
beach with so clean sand that spread on the beach. It also has so calm waves so
the visitors can swim here.
9. Murtalaya

Murtalaya. The visitors will passed the winding road and if you look down,
there is a deep ravine. In this ravine, you will see beautiful nature scenery
with river and rocks that so neatly. The special of this waterfall is the neat
rocks with nature atmosphere around
